As you may know, Gordon Converse & Co. held our first ever antique auction on May 31st
in our showrooms in Malvern, PA.
School’s out and we have taken an informal poll of those involved and herby present our report card. [See above]
Seriously, you, our customers, consigned a wonderful variety of items. We had over 250 lots including antique furniture, a collection of vintage posters, some fine silver and a wide assortment of various other antiques. The sale was well promoted well, and despite some flawed statements that were sent out (apologies…) and a few missed write-in bids (again, our fault), achieved an overall level of success that heads us in the direction of making auctions a permanent activity.
We had much greater than expected write in and phone bidding, even though attendance at the sale might have been better. Our licensed auctioneer was both skilled and helpful, although jokes (by Gordon) were not voted as the best (he’ll work on it). The snack bar was enjoyed by some, but since not everything was consumed, we only gave it a “C”.
The bidding was spirited and this linen press, which most felt had excellent color and matching mahogany grains brought $5,750.00.
Converse & Co. specializes in clocks, and there were some unusual clocks offered for sale as well. Of strong interest was this nicely carved mantel cuckoo clock which brought $1,087.50.
This tin Ferris Wheel sold for a very reasonable $125.
The outstanding American silver tea set with a matching tray made about 1900, brought $6,900.00.
A good time was had by all. So guess what?
