Edens' Last Sunrise 630 Page Novel By Dwight Evans New for 2001 In the tradition of the great Dostoyevesky a 19th century Russian writer Eden's Last Sunrise is a modern metaphysical tragedy that rivals the best of Shakespeare. The author attempts to answer the age old question: Why does mankind suffer if a God of love created all that is?. For instance in her best selling book A History of God Karen Armstrong expresses the problem this way. On Page 376 (paperback) she writes "The idea of a personal God is fraught with difficulty. If God is omnipotent He could have prevented the holocaust. If He was unable to stop it, He is useless; if He could have stopped it but chose not to He is a monster." A thought provoking answer to this problem can be found in this novel. (Page 525) Two grandiose themes; what is the meaning of love in a world of adversity and how to maintain faith in a God of love are central to the plot of the story, and yet the story itself is the best feature of the novel. From beginning to end the reader will be caught up in the turbulent forces that the central characters have to contend with if they are to survive. The story goes beyond the classic struggle of good verses evil. Love and evil are viewed as two faces on the same coin. Eden's Last Sunrise is a tale about one man's struggle to overcome the wounds of dissappointed love. For Shakespeare the question was: To be or not to be, for Michael Eden the novel's central figure the question is to love or not love, to maintain or not maintain faith in a God of love. However at the hands of an evil genius Michael Eden finds that love can be used as a force of destruction. Set in the mid 19th century, beginning with the Irish potato famine and ending with the American civil war this story offers colorful characters, romance, drama, intrigue, lively dialogue, and fast paced action. Emotionally and intellectually stimulating the story will envelop the reader in a tidal wave of romantic adventure. Lavishly and poetically told Eden's Last Sunrise has all the ingredients to become the next best selling piece of American literature.

About the author I like travel, photograpy, metaphysical studies, reading, history, nature and writing. I am an avid collector of Hot Wheels. I probably have over 2000 Hot Wheels. Collecting helps to keep me sane!!!

Questions and Answers regarding the creation of Eden's Last Sunrise What inspired you to write the novel? In life and well as in love one is bound to suffer the slings and arrows of misfortune. On more than one occasion cupid shot me with poisoned arrows which caused me to investigate the nature of love, in part the novel is about the meaning of love in a world of adversity. Also prior to beginning the novel I had been reading the 19th century Russsian author Dostoyevsky whose metaphsical tones appealed to me, so this inspired me to write about a theological problem that I had obsessed about for many years. And rather than approach the subject as non-fiction I thought I would take a creative approach to show how the problem affected the characters of the story. Incidently each chapter title is the title of a Dostoyevesky novel or short story. The novel is over 600 pages, how many characters are in the story? There are 15 central characters and over 125 supporting characters. Including a few historical characters like Darwin who we meet just after he returns from his famous voyage on the HMS Beagle. How long did it take to write the novel? 7 years of hard labor! The story is filled with history which took a long time to research. Seven years seems like a short period of time considering all the work that is involved. What did you do to support yourself? I worked part-time for United Parcel Service which gave me the time to work on the novel. However after I became obsessed with the novel I quit UPS and went to Phoenix AZ were I spent a winter writing in the park everyday. So you quit a perfectly good job to pursue an obsession? Isn't that rather crazy? Yes it was very crazy considering that I did not consider myself to be a writer. Let me get this right! Even though you did not consider yourself to be a writer you quit a good job to pursue an obsession? That is correct! What; did you feel you were writing a masterpiece? Perhaps that was part of it, but I truly felt the theme of the novel needed to be explored since the metaphyical questions I raise are serious problem to maintaining faith in God. What was the most difficult aspect of writing the novel? Motivating myself to literally pick up the pen and write. Staring at a blank piece of paper created much tension, but it also invited me to dive into the unknown. So you had no idea how the story would develop? I had a general idea, but about fifty pages into the book the characters took over and helped to shape much of the story. You say you wrote with a pen, why didn't you use a computer on typewriter? When I started to write the novel I did not know how to type. However after the book was finished out of sheer neccesity I taught myself how to type. Which presented a terrible obstacle. Why terrible? I realized I faced a daunting task if I ever wanted to get the manuscript into the right hands. The novel is over 300,000 words in length and I had never typed a single word. The challenge was terrifing. How long did it take you to type the manuscript? 12 hours a day for four months! It was a lesson in pain and endurance! Next time I'll write a shorter novel! How many years did it take to get published after writing the first word? 15 years! Did you suffer many rejections? Surprisely no! What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
