Finding it tough to come up with the price of a musket?   Tryour three-payment plan.  Layaway a musket and make three (monthly orwhatever schedule) payments to pay it off.  The musket ships on yourthird check or charge payment.  No extra fees for this service.  Note to new reenactors:NEVER buy a Two-Band Zouave weapon forreenacting.  Although many companies manufacture them and manysutlers will sell them to you, they were never used to the same extentas the three banders.  And  they can be a safety problemwhen used in the second rank during a reenactment battle.  I will notsell them for that reason. Also beware of a reproduction 1859 Enfield smoothbore with fixed rearsight made in India that is being sold as "the ideal weapon for reenactors"by less reputable sutlers.  It is a repro of a weapon made by the Britishfor use by Indian troops following the Indian Mutiny (That's Native troopsin India, not the British themselves) and wasn't used by troops during theAmerican Civil War.  There are many "smoothbore" Enfields around todaybecause after the war many of the rifled muskets were bored smooth to turnthem into shotguns.Pricesand listings below are out-of-date.  Please click here to go to thenew updated site at Bookguy.com. Muskets Check to see what weapons were carried by your regiment during the CW. Don't buy a weapon because it looks good or because the sutler saysit's a perfect match for your unit (see 2-band Zouave note above). Ask membersof your unit for advice and then double check thatinformation. Note: I have added historical information about each weapon so that youcan make a more informed decision about a purchase for the regiment/yearyou portray as a reenactor, but it doesn't hurt to check the info I provideand I won't be offended.  If you find something that isn't' correct, please let me know.  Prices below do not include shipping (unless noted otherwise) whichvaries by distance. ColtProduced from 1851-1872, the Navy Colt is the most famous of the cap andball revolvers because of its perfect balance and precise aim.  Thisgun symbolizes the days of the stagecoach, the Pony Express (ended operationsin 1861) and the Civil War.  It wasn't called the "Navy" because  onlythe Navy used it, but because Colt etched a drawing of a naval battle onit to honor the Navy's action during the Mexican War (that's what one articlesaid, anyway).  NOTE: 1851 Navy Colts were never madein a .44 caliber even though you can buy them today from other merchants. Colts were never made with Brass because after a fewlive-fire shots the frame becomes deformed and over time ruins the weapon.  Union troops would not have been issued brass weapons. A few Confederatearms manufacturers copied the '51 in brass, but probably less than 1,000were made (and most likely were worthless after initial use in combat). Most Confederate copies in brass were of the 3rd Model Dragoon andnot too many of those were made. Do not purchase a brass-framed revolver if you intend to do any live-fireshooting.   If you ever plan on selling it later, a steel framerevolver holds its value much better.  We only sell the steel-framedversions. Prior to the CW, approx. 125,000 of the M1851 (large round triggerguard) were produced.  A great many were used during the Civil War.Between 1861 and 1863 the Union Army purchased on the open market about 8,5001851 Navy Colts. Between 1862 and 1863 approx. 4,000 New Navy colts were purchased by theUnion Army.  The U.S. Navy purchased approx. 3,300 in 1862.  After1862 the Navy did not purchase from Colt.     Between 1861 and 1863 Colt delivered 127,157 New Army(.44) Colts to the Union Army.  It was the most common revolver (84%)used by the Union Cavalry at Gettysburg. Over 140 Union Cav. regimentscarried the Colt .44 Army.  During the six months prior to the CW, 2,200New Army  (.44) Colts were purchased by Southern dealers.  After1863 the Union Army switched to Remington due to Colt's high prices.  The four pound two ounce 44 cal. series made by Colt were calledColt Dragoons.  About 20,000 of the three models were produced between1847 and 1860 of which half were of the 3rd model. A number were deliveredto state arsenals prior to the CW.  Compared to other revolvers, notmany Dragoons were used during the CW.   The Confederate arsenalsmade some copies in brass, but only a few thousand. Only 1000 Walker's were made, so these reproductions are mainly for collectorsor those portraying a unit of the 1847/48 U.S. Mounted Rifles, 1st U.S. Dragoons,or Hay's Texas Rangers.  Many of the originals, due to quality problems, were not acceptable for military service following the Mexican War. RemingtonThe  Union purchased 109,805 of the .44 cal New Model Army between1863 and 1865.   Armi Sport will fix or replace any defective items, should that unfortunaterare situation happen.  If you receive either an incorrect shipmentor an item with a problem, DON'T take it to a reenactment.  Pack itback up and the problem will be fixed.   Dings and the usual cosmeticdamage we all inflict upon our reenactment weapons make it difficult to determineif a problem was in manufacturing, shipping or because someone damaged itby bashing a yank/reb over the head with it. :-)  Muskets are likeunderwear.  They can't be returned to inventory as "new" once they havebeen used.
